Kiwanis One Day – A UK Experience

On the subject of Happy Child(ren) we thought it apt to share an experience of just how this can be achieved.

Every year currently on the fourth Saturday of October, Kiwanians around the world join in a day of service. On October 28, Kiwanians in the UK collaborated for the second consecutive year to bring happiness to the children of St. George’s Hospital.

Over the years, Kiwanis UK clubs have participated in Kiwanis One Day on an individual basis. However, in 2016 as UK Coordinator with the theme of “Together – Children @ Heart” it was one of my missions for Kiwanis UK to have a joint Kiwanis One Day Project. In 2016 with the help of UK Board Member and Young Professional President Elect Antoinette Brown (who is a nurse at this hospital) we spent time with children and their parents in the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit.

This year it was a little bit more special, with Nurse Antoinette’s help Kiwanis UK was able to secure a play area where children could drop in eat, play games, meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse and with our friend from Kiwanis Europe we were also able to give the kids some Kiwanis Dolls!

It was wonderful to see a great project continued and enhanced with such enthusiasm; even more wonderful to see the happy smiles on the faces of the children, the parents, the nurses and fellow Kiwanians.

Plan for next year and read more about Kiwanis International One Day here.

Happy reading!
